Verbena used in a traditional Hawaiian method is as a stimulant, to relieve fever, nervous tension, as a tonic, a diaphoretic, and expectorant to promote prespiration. It is said to be used as a stomach tonic and to stimulate the function of the gastrointestinal tract, for dyspepsia as well as for chronic liver problems.
